Dragonfly Teaware

Dragonfly Teaware

Dragonfly Teaware

Come and hold a pot that has lived in fire for a week. Anagama firing leaves
behind yohen – "gifts of the fire": heavy ash that melts into natural glaze,
flame flashing, crystals and textures that no glaze recipe can repeat. No two
pieces are alike. They are worth seeing – and even better, holding in your
hands. At our booth you can pick up and compare pieces, see photos
of the firing or ask about our week-long anagama course .

Products at the festival

We are bringing wood-fired teaware: teapots, cups, bowls, small
vases and more. Every piece spent seven days and nights in our anagama – an
ancient type of wood-burning cave kiln that reached Japan from Korea more than
1,500 years ago. Inside, wood, flame and pots share a single chamber. Ash, fire
and vapour flow across the work and glaze it naturally, so each piece is marked
by the fire in its own way.

Our mission

The dragonfly is my signature – it has marked every piece I have made since the
very beginning. From the start I dreamed of firing in a wood-burning kiln, where
fire and ash paint the surfaces in ways no one can fully control. When we
finished building our own anagama and fired it for the first time, Dragonfly
Teaware was born. Its mission is simple: to carry unique teaware from our kiln
out into the world, on the wings of a dragonfly.

About the brand

Fired for seven days and nights.

Dragonfly Teaware is the wood-fired teaware of Czech ceramicist Lenka Kubínová.
Her teapots, cups and bowls are fired in an anagama – a wood-burning
cave kiln she and her team built by hand under master kiln-builder Petr Toms, in
the village of Zákolany near Prague, beneath the ancient hillfort of Budeč, where
Celts and Slavs once lived.

For a whole week, wood, flame and ash share one chamber with the pots, at
temperatures up to 1,400 °C. What comes out carries yohen – "gifts of the fire":
natural ash glazes, flashing and textures no recipe can repeat. Every piece is
one of one, signed with a small dragonfly.

Lenka fell in love with wood-fired clay the first time she held a rough,
unglazed teapot – and changed her whole profession to make pieces like it.

Come and hold the fire in your hands at Amsterdam Tea Festival on 30 January.
